Customers ask: Do I need an extra floor sensor wire? We formerly recommended it. But, if you CHECK the resistance of the sensor, as indicated in the instructions, we don't feel it's necessary. Each sensor is labeled with instructions

Some customers orders an extra sensor for "peace of mind". Although it is extremely rare for a sensor to fail, they think it is a reasonable precaution to install 2 sensor wires and they consider it cheap insurance.

If you choose to purchase 2 sensors, run both sensors from the control box to the floor below and then place them between the heating elements 12 inches or more into the heated portion of the floor. You can put them side by side, but connect only one to the thermostat control. If you ever need to replace a faulty sensor, you will have one at your fingertips; simply disconnect one, and connect the back-up.

All of our controls include a sensor wire; however, a spare can come in handy if yours gets lost or damaged during installation.

Each Thermostat Manufacturer uses a different sensor wire.

The SunTouch LoudMouth Monitor sounds an alarm if the SunTouch Heating Wire is cut or damaged, allowing for easy repair BEFORE the mat is covered with Mortar & Tile. We highly recommend the LoudMouth® invented and patented by SunTouch.

Connect it during the ENTIRE installation of your SunTouch Mats to monitor the Heating Elements and give yourself the assurance of a Quality Installation. The LoudMouth Monitor is Another SunTouch innovation - Our design is unique and has more features than recent imitators.

How the LoudMouth Works:

1. Insert each lead wire from the heating product into L1 and L2 terminals (no polarity) with the ground wire inserted into the G terminal. Tighten the terminal screws onto the wires.
2. Set switch to ON position.
3. Green light indicates the LoudMouth is operating.
4. The red light and alarm indicate lead wires have come loose from terminals or damage has occurred to the heating product.
5. Press the TEST button to simulate a damage condition before beginning work.

Of course, you can also monitor the installation with only your digital multi-meter to verify resistance (ohms); but you will have to watch it throughout the installation process. The Loudmouth is nicknamed "The Screamer" and is optional, but provides peace of mind during the installation process or between the installation of the Mats and the Tile (if there is a time gap between when the mats are laid out unprotected and covering them with mortar).

How-To Connect the LoudMouth

Our Digital Multi-Meter is used to check resistance (ohms) of Electric Floor Heating elements before, during, and after installation, as required by the installation manual.

ALL Electric Floor Heat installations REQUIRE the use of a digital ohm meter (aka multi-meter - must be digital). You do not have to buy this meter - you just need to have one on the job; borrow one if you can.

Dial your meter to " 200 " in the green ? range to test heating elements (Or dial to " 2000 " for resistance ranges above 199) and " 20K " or 20,000 to check the sensor wire. Get accurate readings for:
