Can SunTouch be installed under wood floors, laminate flooring or under carpet?

SunTouch radiant mats are UL Listed for use with any type of finished floor if you embed it in at least a quarter inch of masonry. As always, start with a strong subfloor, secure the SunTouch, and cover with a self leveling mortar of your choice. Once this mortar is in place, follow the manufacturer instructions for cure time and then cover with laminate or carpet. Our Favorite Self Leveling manufacturer is ARDEX. Other Manufacturers are Custom Building Products and Mapei.

Can you install Nuheat Mat Under Vinyl floor half the floor is wood other half is concrete

Hi Carmen,

Thank you for your question.

The best installation practice is to divide the area into zones whenever the floor covering or the sub floor changes. Each zone requires its own thermostat and floor sensor.

When you are installing floor heating on different sub floors, you should install 2 separate zones, each with its own thermostat. In your example, half is plywood sub floor and the other half is concrete slab, which means the floors will heat differently. Slab floors take longer to heat up than frame floors; if you used one thermostat, and placed the sensor in the slab portion, the wood area would get much warmer, and vice versa for sensor placement on the wood subfloor – that portion would heat up much faster than the slab and turn off, never allowing the slab portion to come to temperature.

The same situation applies if you had the same sub floor, but 2 different floor coverings, say engineered wood or laminate in half the floor adjoining tile.
