Warm Your Floor Wants You to Know About Heating Systems and Indoor Air Quality

Warm Your Floor is very concerned with indoor air quality. Unfortunately, many traditional heating systems actually emit emissions and pollution within the home. Some heating methods are in fact so toxic that they can cause enough pollution both outdoors and indoors to make people feel ill. Those who have lung disease, asthma, and other lung ailments are particularly at risk with these heating systems.

Heated floors are among the most healthy forms of heating and also one of the more environmentally friendly forms of heating. In floor heating is installed underneath the floors and is not based on a combustible fuel source. This means that in floor heating produces no emissions, no pollution, and does not stir up dust or other toxins. In floor heating also does not overheat or burn any fibers that land on your floor, making it one of the best options, especially if someone in your family suffers from a lung ailment. Underfloor heating can even save you money.

Unlike heated floors, forced air heating systems can blow dust, irritants, and allergens into the air. Even if you clean your vents and replace your furnace filter regularly, some of these emissions will still be produced. Plus, since forced air heating systems rely on a fuel combustible furnace, emissions can seep into the home, especially if the furnace is not in perfect working condition.

Unlike in floor heating, wood-burning stoves pollute both outdoor and indoor air quality. While the latest wood-burning stoves are safer, all of these stoves can still release toxins including sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and many others.

Propane and natural gas fireplaces and stoves are also combustible forms of heating, and can actually raise the level of carbon monoxide in a room. Carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless, and so often goes unnoticed, leading to sickness and death. If you use one of these floor heatingheating systems, you should install a carbon monoxide detector. Where possible, seek another form of heating – one with fewer health hazards.

Obviously, heated floors may represent a better option if you're concerned about your family's health and the environment. Heated floors do not produce any emissions, and since they rely on electricity, they may be powered by a renewable power source, especially if your municipality uses wind mills, or other forms of green power generation. Unlike other forms of heating, heated floors do not produce toxins, emissions, and other dangerous substances. For both indoor and outdoor health quality, under floor heating is simply the better option.
