  • I have a Suntouch 500650 that has started blinking. I can reset and it works properly for a couple of days but then starts blinking again. Any thoughts?

      Hi Mary,

The red blinking light is ground fault indicator built into the thermostat.

Typically the thermostat just needs to be replaced in this instance.

If you’re concerned something is wrong under your floor, you would need to perform an electrical resistance test on the heating element using a multi-meter.

  • I’ve got a model 500670 thermostat and the manual does not show where the HOLD/RETURN button is and it’s not marked on the case.
    Where is it?

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Hi Lou,

The Hold/Return button is the button in the middle under the swing-down panel.

Let us know if you need any more help.

      Thank you, Lou!

      Hi Lukas,

You’ll need multiple cables all connecting back to the thermostat.

This would require two 20 amp breakers to power the system.

Give us a call and we can go over it in more detail.

Our phone number is 866-558-3369. Thank you!

    • Hi Toni – the 6″ is a general recommendation, since you cannot walk or stand closer than 6″ along a WALL (saves $ for you), Also avoid potential damage when base molding, trim, etc. is being installed.

      The manual says:

      Design Clearances
When designing the heating system, care must be taken to ensure that proper clearance is maintained
from fixtures that may be part of the floor.
      • For best results, there should be a 6 inch (15 cm) clearance between the edge of the mats and the perimeter of
the room or the walls. Clearance may be greater than 6 inches.
      • Decorative trim: Mats must be installed so that they will not be covered, even in part, by decorative trim,
baseboards or other structures on the floor. Heating mats that are covered by other structures may overheat.
      • Wiring: Electrical wiring in the floor, other than that for the heating system, must be at least 2 inches (5 cm)
away from the heating mats and/or separated from the heating mats by insulation or the building structure.
      • Heat Sources: At least 8 inches (20 cm) of clearance must be maintained between heat sources and the Radiant
Heat Film mats. Heat sources include hot water pipes, stoves, fireplaces, wood stoves, hot air vents, etc.

I need an instruction manual to program my SunStat Pro II Model 500775-SB. We purchased a house with this thermostat, but cannot figure out how to program it.

  • I am starting a whole-house renovation project, 2800 sq ft. Existing heating is baseboard hydronic with a 40-year old furnace/boiler. I need to install a central HVAC/heat pump with an emergency propane gas hot air furnace. Also, I have plenty of land do install solar panels. 1st floor is insulated crawl space which will be covered with stone and hardwood; 2nd floor will use stone as carpet. What sources can help me evaluate the efficiency of using infrared floor heating? My home is located in Pennsylvania near State College.

    • matthew@warmyourfloor.com says:

      Mike,

There are heat loss calculations you can do to determine how many BTUs you need to heat a room.

Most systems produce about 40 BTUs per sq ft an hour. So at 2800 sq ft that’s 112,000 BTUs.

Once you know how many BTUs you’ll need to heat the home, you’ll have a better idea of how effective the heat from the system will be.

      Hi Frank,

You just need to spread enough thin-set mortar over the mat to cover the heating elements. Generally around a quarter of an inch (0.25″).

    • Hi Jean,

It is recommended to use 240V for areas larger than 150 square feet.

You could use 120V, but it would require two circuits.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
